Mahi Mahi are the few fishing trips that are coming in now seem to be having banner days fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Our last trip one of our regulars Matt and his crew that works with him on a yacht based out of Ft Lauderdale.

We went offshore trolling in hoping to find some Mahi once we got about 4 miles off shore we had 2 bites at the same time on our planner rods that were about 45 feet deep. We ended up with 2 Wahoo’s or should I say Wehoo’s the were about 3 pounds each.

While releasing these 2 small fish I thought that there had to be something floating near by. So I made a big loop and got right on the track we were on when we got the bits and BAM there it was a 10 foot piece of Bamboo and it was game on.

All hell broke lose with every rod connected and the fun began. We ended up with 15 nice Mahi!

While we were catching these fish we had about a 300 pound dusky shark chasing our fish as we hooked up we ended up paying the TAX man with 2 of our fish but it was something to watch how fast these sharks are and how high up these Mahi could jump.

If you are not familiar Mahi-mahi, also known as common dolphinfish or dorado, is a popular and delicious seafood choice. It is a surface-dwelling ray-finned fish found in offshore temperate, tropical, and subtropical waters worldwide. Mahi-mahi are known for their beautiful iridescent colors, which range from golden on the sides to bright blues and greens on the back. They have a firm, lean white flesh with a mild, sweet flavor that makes them versatile for many cooking methods!
