Another Day of Great Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale

April 19th, 2012

Great Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale

WOW what else can I say fishing has just been red hot for us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale and today was no exception.

We set out on our day of deep-sea fishing with Dave, Chad, Troy and Joel all from Grand Rapids Michigan.

We started out trolling and landing a box full of kingfish, 4 Mahia Mahia, 3 blackfin tunas and one big bomber bonito.

Ok we had plenty of fish in the box at this point and for the most part the pressure was off so it was time to go for the BIG ONE.

In came the trolling rods and out went the kites with live baits suspended from them.

By the end of the day not only had Dave caught a sailfish but Joel also caught a big sailfish.

WOW another  day of Great Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale.

WOW Action Packed Day Of Fishing aboard Hooked Up off Fort Lauderdale

April 17th, 2012

Today we started this great day of Deep Sea fishing aboard the Hooked up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale with;

Jim from Organ and Ken from South Carolina.

We started out trolling the reef with 2-planner board running about 45 to 50 feet down along with 3 baits skipping across the surface.

Trolling was good with us landing 8 kingfish, 5 Mahia Mahia and 1 black fin tuna.

Ok now with the skunk out of the box in came the trolling gear and out went the kites with live goggle eyes (Live Bait) suspended from them.

From there it wasn’t long till our first sailfish bite.

I can’t recall who caught the first one but soon after that we were Hooked Up again and by the end of the trip both guys had caught a sailfish.

Man it seemed we were just on fire today and as we got back to the dock we picked up our afternoon trip.

Dave from M.N., Ken from Pompano Beach Florida, Rob from Orlando Florida and Chris from Nashville Tenn.

Ok back to trolling the reef and yes once again the reef trolling was red hot.

By the end of the trip we had 2 bonitos, 10 black fin tunas, 4 Mahia Mahia and 4 kingfish.

WOW what an action packed day of fishing today aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks once again to all of our anglers for fishing with us today.

Sharks, Sailfish, Tunas, Kingfish, Mahia Mahia and boat load of Fun Aboard Hooked Up

April 15th, 2012

Today we started out fishing with Mike, Tahoe, Daizy, and Morgan from Miami Florida and Sang from Wyoming.

Good eating fish is what we were looking for so we started out trolling the reef looking for kingfish but they just were not biting. That all but one was not biting we did end up catching one and he was a NICE 30 pounder. Well I guess that makes up for the ones that did not want to bite!!

Ok so the king bite was slow so we headed out for a little deeper water and found 4 nice Mahia Mahia fish. While these king fish are edible fish they are a bit fishy but as for the Mahia Mahia well just take a look at just about any sea food restaurant menu and you’ll find them their. (Yummy)

As we got back to the dock we had Ben, Matt, Stephen and James ready to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.

We started out trolling looking to throw a few fish in the box before we went for the big one.

While trolling we did catch 1 kingfish, 3 Mahia Mahia and 2 small black fin tunas.

Ok skunk out of the box so in came all the trolling gear and out went the kites with live and dead bait suspended from them along with a couple shark baits set down deep.

The trap was set now we just needed a bite. And a bite was just what we got when one of the big shark rods bent over line started peeling off the reel and we were Hooked Up.

Matt jumped in the chair and the fight was on. At first all Matt could do was to hang on as all the line was being peeled off the reel at a very fast pace. But after a few min the line slowed and Matt started to gain a little. Than back out it went then he would gain a little more back and forth we went.

Than all of a sudden we had a bite on one of the kite baits that were still out there. Line started walking off the reel while Matt was still doing battle with this sea monster he had on. Than all at once J.J. locked up the reel as Captain Greg went ahead with the boat and just like that a big sailfish came out of the water and jumping all over the place.

Now as Stephen jumped in the chair we had our hands full with 2 big game fish on at the same time.

Finally after what seemed forever Stephan got his first ever sailfish to the boat.

Way to go Stephan.

Ok back to Matt’s fight and after another 10 to 15 min later Matt had this BIG hammerhead shark to the boat.

Aboard the Hooked Up we have invented this big loop made out of plastic coated cable that we just slide over the sharks head so we can handle the shark without sticking a gaff into him so we can try to get the hooks out and get a quick measurement and a few pictures and release him in great shape.

Well that’s what we did with the big hammerhead but I am sorry to say that while we were fighting the sailfish he got wrapped up in the leader and came in backwards and he did not make it.

However we did have the meat smoked and passed all the smoked meat out so it did not go to waist.

Guys WHAT A BLAST thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Deep Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale

April 14th, 2012

Today we had a couple of couples from Davie Florida out for a half-day of fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

We started out the morning thinking we were not going to be fishing due to the bad rainy weather but everyone was pumped up about fishing so off we went.

We started out trolling and within min we had our first Mahia Mahia on just like that the skunk was out of the box.

Now I was starting to think that we just might catch some good eating fish and show these guys a good time after all?

But it was quite some time before our next bite and I could see that 3 out of the 4 were not really enjoying this fishing for dinner thing any more.

We ended up calling the fishing trip early but not till we got a couple of Mahia Mahias in the box for dinner.

Guys sorry about the weather a next time we stay longer on the house.

Fishing Friday the 13th Great luck aboard Hooked Up

April 13th, 2012

They say that Friday the 13th is bad luck BUT they just don’t know about Fishing Friday the 13th aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of fort Lauderdale.

We think it is one of the best days to fish after our catch today.

We started out fishing with Shane and A.D. from Austin Texas.

This morning we went trolling with 2-planner board running about 45 feet down and 3 baits skipping across the surface.

While we did not run into a school of fish to catch them one after another we did seem to keep steady action with a fish every 10 to 15 min.

We ended up with 4 nice kingfish and 5 Mahia Mahia.

As we pulled back to the dock we had Lisa and Marry from Fort Lauderdale and Mike and Bobby from Coral Springs Florida ready to deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up on this Friday the 13th.

Truth being told here the weather looked as bad as it could with the sky’s black and rain coming at us fast.

While the seas were calm we had rain coming down like cats and dogs before we even got the first bait in the water.

Captain Greg started out with a shark bait on the surface then he set another shark bait down about 150 feet as he was setting out another bait the bait that was set at 150 took off and just like that we were Hooked Up.

When I say the line-started peeling off I mean it looked as if it was never going to stop.

For the first 5 min of this fight all Bobby could do was to hang on to the rod in the rain and watch this line just keep going off the reel. Captain Greg just stood there helping Bobby hang on and was just shaking his head wondering what the heck we had on here and what the heck we were doing out here in this rainy weather.

But soon enough the line slowed to a stop and Bobby started gaining a little line.

I will not bore you with the long hour and fifteen min details but I will say Bobby would gain a little and than lose a little back and forth tug a war but when we seen what popped up we could not believe our eyes.

Bobby had landed a MONSTER Threasur Shark!!

We wanted to take a measurement to have a replica trophy made of Bobby’s unbelievable catch but the best we could do was to get his head into the tuna door while Greg reached out over the back of the boat with the tape measure.

WOW what else can I say this was truly a catch of a lifetime!!

WAY TO GO BOBBY

Than we 2 out of the 3 hooks out and watched him swim away in good shape.

And just like that the skunk was out of the box and the rain stopped.

Ok no rain so out went the kites with 4 live baits suspended from them.

All of a sudden a sailfish popped up and we were Hooked Up again!!

This time Mary jumped in the chair and the fight was on.

15 min later Marry had her first sailfish ever to the side of the boat.

We got a couple of pictures of this nice sailfish next to the boat cut the leader right next to the sail’s mouth and watched him swim away in great shape to fight again another day.

FRIDAY THE 13th GREAT DAY TO FISH!!!

Sea Fishing Ft Lauderdale

April 12th, 2012

Sea Fishing Ft Lauderdale

Today we started out fishing with Ted, Richard, John and Robyn all from Sweden

We started out trolling the reef and while trolling was slow we did end up catching a couple of kingfish and a few small bonitos.

Once we had a few fish in the box we went to the same shipwreck that had produced some good fish for us all week.

But I am sorry to say that today the wreck fishing was just shut down and we tried and tried but just could not get a bite on the wrecks.

As we pulled back to the dock we had Denzel and his son Tray that had fished with us the day before. They had such a great time that this time they brought along Denzel’s daughter Isabella and his wife Kim.

Once again we started out trolling and once again the trolling was just slow today. We did manage to catch a couple more kingfish but since we had little to no current fishing was just slow.

BUT all the same we knew we just had to catch little Isabella a nice fish to catch up with her brother.

So back to the wreck we went and once again down went the live bait. This time it took a little waiting but finally it paid off and BAM the rod bent over. Isabella jumped in the chair and once again with a little help she landed this big amberjack.

WAY TO GO Isabella.

To all of our anglers today sorry fishing was a little slow but I’m sure a good time was had by all today and thanks for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

The kids tear up the bottom fishing Ft Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up

April 11th, 2012

Today we started out fishing with one of our regular anglers Denzel and his son Tray from West By God Virginia.

Once again we started out trolling and catching a few small bonitos.

After catching these small bonitos we went right back to a shipwreck we had fished the day before and down went the small bonito. The second the bait hit the bottom BAM again we were Hooked Up.

Denzel jumped in the chair and the fight was on. 10 to 15 min later up popped this MONSTER 61 inch amberjack. Holly Cow now that was a hand full.

Ok it worked once so down went another live bonito and once again BAM the rod bent over and the fight was on.

Now it was Tray’s turn and with a little help from dad Tray landed this big 52-inch amberjack.

Denzel and Tray thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up and sorry I was out of town and did not get to fish with you guys this time.

BUT I was with my son Luis in the Bahamas and we still remember his first threasure shark with you guys about 5 or 6 years ago.

As we pulled back to the dock we had a crowd of little people waiting and eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of South Florida.

We had 9-year-old Jeremiah, 10-year-old Charlie, 7-year-old Callun and O yea they let their dad Jeremiah tag along with them on this trip.

They were all down from New York and looking forward to a little deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Fishing or should I say catching!!

We started out trolling and catching 4 bonitos and one Mahia Mahia.

Ok back to the shipwreck that had been so good to us on the last couple of trips.

And once again the wreck did not let us down.

I don’t recall who caught what so I just let the pictures speak for them self’s.

Thanks again to all of our little anglers today for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Dave and John get whipped fishing the bottom off the coast of Ft Lauderdale

April 10th, 2012

Today we had a birthday boy Dave out celebrating his 50th B Day with his good friend John both from M.N.

We started out trolling catching a few small bonitos but for the most part trolling was on the slow side so we decided to try something new.

We brought in the trolling gear and dropped one of these small bonitos down 210 feet to a shipwreck.

The second the bait hit the bottom BAM the rod bent over and Birthday boy jumped in the chair.

Now he gets to feel what it’s like to fight a big fish @ 50 years old. (LOL)

10 min later up pops this big amber jack.

Way to go Dave well if it worked once what the heck down went another live bait and again BAM now all the razzing John was giving Dave comes back to hunt him. (LOL)

What a fun fishing trip! Thanks again guys and once again Happy B Day Dave.

Great day for the kids catching sails and the older kids catching hammerhead sharks

April 7th, 2012

Today we started out fishing with Mark and Flynt from Valdosta Ga. and Crocket and Richard from Atlanta Ga.

Today was one of those days where we were just on fire with one big fish after another.

We started out flying our kites with 3 live baits suspended from them along with a big shark bait also suspended from the kite.

First bite turned out to be a big sailfish and Flynt couldn’t wait to jump in the chair and the fight was on. Back and forth with this big sailfish dancing all over the surface putting on a great show for everyone.

15 min later Flynt had his first sailfish to the side of the boat. (Way to go Flynt) O by the way did I forget to mention that Flynt is only 13 years old.

Ok skunk out of the box and the kites were set right back out there and once again the trap was set.

Ok trap was set once again and Bam another sail fish on the right long kite bait and now Crocket jumped in the chair and the fight was on.

Once again after a good 25 min back and forth tug a war Crocket had our second sail of the day to the boat. O did I forget to mention Crocket is only 15 years old?

Must be a day for the kids? But wait now we had a big hammerhead shark all over the shark bait that was suspended from the kite and just like that we were Hooked Up again.

This time Richard (Dad has to have a little fun too) jumped in the chair and the back and forth fight was on.

And again after a good 30 min we had a nice hammerhead shark to the boat.

Wow what an action packed day of deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up!!

But wait there was still more to come with our afternoon trip with Toney from Pa. and 3 others that we never did get their names but I do know they were happy when the trip was over due to the fact that they most have been sick of fishing if you know what I mean?

Just a little tip to those of you who might not be used to being out on the ocean BUBBLE GUM that’s right good old fashion Bobble Gum seems to work real well along with some motion sickness pills taken the night before so it is in your system reel good and since you have already slept on the drug it won’t make you quite so drossy.

Anyways back to the fishing with Toney landing another big hammerhead shark. Way to go Toney sorry they had us come in early on such a red-hot day of deep sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Wow what a great day of deep sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up

We started out trolling the reef with 2-planner board running about 45 feet down and 3 baits skipping across the surface.

Truth being told fishing was slow BUT Ben landed a nice 15 pound king fish and Sam caught a nice bonito.

As we pulled back to the dock we had Roy from Clermont Florida and Toney and Nelson from Rode Island eager to give their luck a shot at some deep sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.

Once again we went right to trolling the reef hopping to increase our odds of catching some good eating fish.

Once again sorry to say we had little to no current today and fishing was just plain old slow.

HOWEVER we did get lucky with Toney landing a nice kingfish and with Roy saving the day with a nice 18 pound Wahoo.

13 Year old Kyle Lands Big Sea Monster aboard Hooked Up

April 5th, 2012

This afternoon we had a regular angler who has fished with us in the past and has landed some big fish aboard the Hooked Up.

Today Shawn brought along his 13-year-old son Kyle along with his wife and daughter Lynette and Shalyn from New Fond land Canada.

Last year they had caught a big sailfish fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up so this year we were looking for a BIG shark.

As you have heard in the past be carful what you hope for!!

Yep you guessed it. After setting out the kites along with our deep shark baits BAM one of the deep rods bent over and the fight was on. BUT I never would have guessed this one little Kyle jumped in the chair and he was not giving up the rod.

This was not an easy fish to catch and while Kyle showed no signs of giving up neither did this sea monster on the other end.

Kyle would lose a lot of line and than gain a little back lose a lot more gain a little back than slowly but surely the tables started to turn now Kyle would gain a lot and than lose a little. I don’t know how long this went on for but it had to be close to an hour or maybe a little longer but at last Kyle got this MONSTER Hammerhead shark to the boat.

At this point the shark was pretty tired so we were able to slide him in through the tuna door for a quick measurement and some pictures and we even got all the hooks out and sent him back to sea to fight again another day.

Kyle you are one tough little guy my hats off to you great job.

Shawn thanks again for bring the family down to fish with us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Fishing with the Family from Sea Hag Marina

April 4th, 2012

Today we fished with Charlie and his wife Daniel and their kids Chase and Chaeli.

They own a marine up in Stein Hatchie Florida call the Sea Hag Marina and they wanted to try a little east cost fishing instead of the bottom fishing they do a lot of on the west coast of Florida.

We started out trolling the reef catching 4 kingfish.

Ok skunk was out of the box so it was time to try for the big one.

We set out our fishing kite with a live and a dead bait suspended from the kite. We also sent a shark bait to the bottom and another shark bait half way down. (TRAP SET)

The wait was on but we had a good feeling we had a slight north current and the water was a clean green. Perfect conditions for sharks.

And soon enough one of the shark rods bent over and just like that we were Hooked Up.

The fight was on!! Back and forth we would gain a little and the shark would take it right back. Slowly but surely we were gaining and after a good 30 min fight we finally got this nice hammerhead shark to the side of the boat.

We did manage to get 2 of the 3 hooks out and as I ran back up on the fly bridge I seen J.J. and Charlie doing something over the side with the shark.

Well I be dammed they got the third hook out of the side of this sharks mouth.

(Guys the hooks only cost 95 cents each!!) Well I’m sure the shark was happy they got the third hook out but as much as we like to release these sharks in as good of shape as possible it really well rust out in a matter of weeks.

All the same no harm done and everyone was high fiveing and shaking hands over this perfect catch and release.

Thanks again to the whole family for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up off Fort Lauderdale’s red-hot coast.

Spring is Here and so are the Sailfish off the coast of fort Lauderdale

April 3rd, 2012

Today we fished with Bob from Tallassee Florida, John from Tampa Florida, Larry from parts unknown and Joe from Houston Texas.

Today we had good north current and crisp blue water and off the coast of Fort Lauderdale this time of the year with these great conditions it can mean SAILFISH. So that just what we were after with 2 kites flying high and 2 baits suspended from each kite. The trap was set and from there it wasn’t long till we got our first bite.

A sailfish popped up on the left long kite bait and Larry jumped in the chair. The fight was on!!

At first this fish was jumping all over the place but once he settled down the grueling back and forth tug a war was on. Larry hung in there and within 20 min we had our first fish of the day caught.

Ok bats set right back out in the kites and BAM a big splash by our right long kite bait and just like that we were Hooked Up again. This time John jumped in the chair and after a 10 min fight up popped this monster bomber bonito.

Ok not a sailfish but wow what a fight.

Ok right back to it and YES another sail on the right long kite bait and this time Joe jumped in the chair. And yep after a good 20 min anther fine catch aboard the Hooked Up.

Guy’s thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Finally the Sailfish are here off the coast of Fort Lauderdale

Fishing with Mitch and Jared aboard Hooked Up off the coast of South Florida

April 2nd, 2012

Today we fished with Mitch and Jared from Baltimore.

We started out trolling and Mitch landed a nice 10 pound Mahia Mahia. Than we worked our way back to a ship wreck that laid in 210 feet of water and sent down a live bonito. As J.J. was lifting the bait off the bottom so as not to get hung up in the wreck BAM the rod bent over and Captain Greg went ahead with the boat to get the fish away from the wreck asap all while J.J. was reeling like a mad man and Jared was jumping in the chair. After a good 30 to 40 seconds we had the fish a good safe distance away from the wreck and Jared was in for a big back and forth tug a war. After a good 15 min Jared had this monster almaco Jack to the boat.

Guy’s thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of South Florida. I am sorry but we did not have our camera aboard today and we never got any pictures so Mitch and Jared if you can send us some photos and I will post them!

Fishing on April Fools Day turns out to be a great day aboard Hooked Up

April 1st, 2012

Today on this April fools day we started out fishing with Donna and Gary from New York and Drew and Judy from Columbus Ohio.

We started out kite fishing with 4 live baits suspended from the kites and 2 shark baits down deep.

All of a sudden a sailfish popped up on our right long kite bait Donna jumped in the chair and BAM we were Hooked Up.

After a 15 min back and forth tug a war Donna finally got her sail to the boat. (88 incher Now That’s A Nice Fish) way to go Donna.

Than we tried a deep drop on a shipwreck with a live bonito.

The second the live bait hit the bottom the rod bent over Drew jumped in the chair and BAM again we were Hooked Up.

Once again a good 15 min fight and up popped this monster 50 inch amber jack.

2 big trophy fish on the same half-day trip way to go guys.

As we pulled back to the dock we had Trent from Indiana and Kim from Pa. eager to give their luck a shot aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

This time we started out trolling and catching 2 kingfish and 1 black fin tuna.

Ok skunk was out of the boat and since wreck fishing had worked out so well for us this morning we decided to head right back to the same shipwreck and see if we could get lucky there again.

And we did! Not 1 but 2 big amber jacks on the same shipwreck we had fished earlier in the day.

To all of our anglers today thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up and remember send us some pictures and we will post them. Sorry to say our camera was not aboard today so we never got any pictures.
