Here we are on the last day of March and what a great way to end the month!!
We started out fishing with Brain, John, Matt and Bart all from Missouri.
We were looking for BIG fish and we had a smoking north current so we started out a bit south of our inlet and set out both kites with 3 live baits suspended from the kites along with one shark bait also suspended from the kite. We were fishing in 100 feet of water because the day before I had seen 2 sailfish in reel shallow. As we were drifting to the north at about 2 knots all we were getting were kingfish bites and at the cost of $6 dollars per bait and all they were doing was biting the tails off this just was not working out.
So I slowly worked our way out to 350 feet of water and while we kept the same spread of baits out of the kites we added a couple more shark baits down deep.
Truth being told here we waited and waited with no bites and to make matters worse I was listing to al the other captains on the radio and it seemed that no one was getting any bites.
All the same at this point we were committed so the trap was set and the wait continued when all of a sudden I seen our kite clip pulling down hard and while I could not see a fish their had to be some thing pulling at it.
Finally I seen this 3-foot silky shark darting around out there and at last he got hooked.
Now after all this waiting you would think that this was a good thing that finally we had a fish on the other end BUT that was not the way we felt as we had this little shark next to the boat and all at once out of no where I see this big hammer head shark racing around every where trying to find what he had smelled just seconds before. (RATS AND DOUBLE RATS) Captain Greg scrabbled as fast as he could to get another shark bait out there but by the time we got another bait out there the shark was long gone.
Ok back to waiting!!
Than all at once I seen this hammerhead back out there trying hard to zero in on our bait and BAM we were Hooked Up.
Brain wasted no time jumping in the chair and the fight was on.
Within 15 min Brain had this shark to the side of the boat. Maybe a little too fast because at first this hammer head was just laying there next to the boat just as peacefully as could be but as we slowly slid him into the boat so we could get the hooks out ALL HELL BROKE LOSE he went nuts.
Now bare in mind our intent is to release the fish unharmed and we like to get the hooks out to give him a much better chance to survive.
I had a rope around his head and I just pulled him tight against the chair and held him tight till he settle down but not before his tail made a mess of the boat.
Ok finally we got the hooks out a quick measurement to have a replica trophy made and right back to the sea he went. Captain Greg let us know that the fish went a little nuts due to his embarrassment for this was his first boat ride. (LOL)
Ok at this point we were a good 5 miles north of our inlet and running short on time because of our next trip that would be waiting for us at the dock.
But all the same we were going to fish till the very min.
And that’s just what it took because just as we were going to bring in the baits here comes this BIG sailfish and he was hungry. After watching him chasseing the live bait right behind the boat for 30 to 40 seconds BAM he got it and we were Hooked Up again. This time Matt jumped in the chair and the fight was on and on and on this fish was putting it to us and this is the one time we really needed a smaller fish due to the time factor but it is what it is and we were going to catch this big one.
(And we did) Once again hooks out quick measurement and back to sea to fight again another day. Now it was haul #$@^$ back to the dock.
Brain, John, Matt and Bart thanks again and now get off the boat this trip is over! (LOL)
And now we had Ryan, Danny, Anthony and his brother the wrestler Vin the Chin all from C.T.
Vin the Chin is an up coming wrestler and they were all down here in South Florida for the Wrestle Mania event being filmed down here at the stadium and being showed all around the world.
No the Chin was not fighting but hopefully by next year he’ll be the next Hulk Hogan and when he does remember the little people you knew Chin! (LOL)
Ok back to fishing this afternoon we went fishing down to the south with our kites live and dead baits suspended from the kites.
Fishing was tough due to all the sea weed that was spread out all over the place but all the same we did catch a big barracuda out of the kite.
And than we switched over to trolling witch was also very tough again due to the sea weed but we did catch a black fin tuna for dinner.
One quick note I was going to body slam the chin but he was a nice guy and I did not want to hurt his career! (LOL)
