Great Day of Fishing Off Fort Lauderdale

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Great day of fishing off Fort Lauderdale.

Today we set out on our fishing trip with Joe, Brittany, Walt and Elaine.

On our way out we picked up some live bait from the bait boat and went right to 150 feet of water and set out our kites with 4 live baits suspended from the kites.

Truth being told fishing had been slow all week BUT today we had a big weather change and the wind was blowing out of the northeast and our hopes were high.

As it turned out we were right and we were in for a great day of deep-sea fishing.

We started out with Joe catching and releasing a big sailfish throw in a Mahia Mahia for Brittany and a nice kingfish for Walt and yet another big sail for Elaine and you got the making for a great day of fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks again to our anglers for fishing I mean Catching aboard the Hooked Up.

Deep Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Today we started out fishing with James, Declan, Aidan and Lian from Westchester Ney York.

We started out trolling the reef with 2 planner boards and three surface baits.

While trolling was on the slow side we did catch a couple of bonitos.

Ok time for plan B so in came the trolling gear and out went the kites and the shark baits. The trap was set and the wait was on. We waited and waited till @ last our balloon went down and we were Hooked Up. At first we did not know what we had on the fish seemed to come straight up to the surface and than started pulling line as if it was going to jump. Than after 10 to 15 min we seen this jet like shark darting threw the water and we knew we had a big silky shark on.

We did manage to slide him through the tuna door for a quick measurement and a couple of photos.

We even got a good picture of him swimming away in good shape but I think he was a little embarrassed because this was the first time he was ever on a boat. (LOL)

Ok big fish caught and we were feeling a lot better about the trip so right back out the baits went and once again the trap was set. Than BAM another bite on the same deep line. After a 10 min fight up popped another silky shark.

Captain Greg some how managed to reach over and got all the hooks out of him and again watched him swim away in great shape.

As we got back to the dock we had Valdimir and Tasha from Colorado waiting to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up.

This afternoon we started out trolling the reef with no bites so we switched back to kite fishing and while fishing was slow we did manage to land a couple of nice Mahia Mahia for dinner.

Thanks again to all of our anglers today for fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.

Sharks, Kings and Sails aboard Hooked Up in Ft Lauderdale

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Today we had A.J. and Larry from Hartford Conn and Dwayne and Marcia from Tuscan Arizona.

Once again we started out trolling on the reef catching kingfish.

Once everyone had caught some fish we brought in the trolling gear and set up for some sail fishing and shark fishing out in 350 feet of water.

It took so patience but at last one of the deep rods bent over and we were Hooked Up.

A.J. jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a good 30 min battle. A.J. would gain a little and this sea monster would take it right back. Back and forth but at last up came this big hammerhead shark.

Nice going guys!!

As we pulled back to the dock we had Chef Shannon, Kim, Oliver, Desmond, Jorge and Jennifer all eager to give their luck a shot at some deep sea fishing aboard the hooked Up.

This after noon we went right to kite fishing with 4 live baits suspended from the kites.

While I must admit fishing was slow but than all of a sudden a big 88 inch sailfish popped up got a hold of one of our kites baits and took off. Chef Shannon jumped in the chair and the fight was on while everyone was cheering Shannon on.

After a good 20 min back and forth tug a war at last Shannon had this big sailfish to the boat.

Guy’s sorry fishing was a bit on the slow side today but if your going to only catch one this would be the one I would pick.

Thanks again to all of our anglers for fishing with us today aboard the Hooked up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

To all of our readers out there you can see by reading my fishing reports that fishing is getting better every day. I know we had a slower than usual start this year due to the lack of cold weather but now the fish are starting to come through real good and we are not even into spring yet so give us a call and lets get you and your friends Hooked Up.

Shark Fishing Ft Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

Today we had Adam and Anna from Wellsville New York and Daniel and Tatiana from Coral Springs Florida.

This afternoon we went right to kite fishing with live and dead baits suspended from the kites along with a couple of shark baits down deep.

Our first bite was on one of the deep baits and Adam jumped in the chair. This turned out to be a 25 min back and forth tug a war but Adam hung in there and ended up catching this big Bull shark. Greg and J.J. got a quick measurement and released him to fight again another day.

Ok skunk out of the box and back to fishing we went.

Son of a gun the deep rod again and this time Daniel jumped in the chair after a good 15 min Tatiana jumped in to give him a hand and soon after that Anna jumped in to help out and sure enough another bull shark.

Guys what a fun time fishing with all four of you and we are looking forward to fishing again soon.

Sharks and King Fishing off Fort Lauderdale

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

Today we had a shared charter starting with LHuillier from France, Mike from Virginia Beach, Tammy from Jacksonville, Linda from Canada, Arley and his son Jack from Alberta Canada.

We started out trolling the reef catching everyone kingfish.

Once we had plenty of action we reeled in all the trolling gear and set out 3 shark baits. One on top one half way down and last but not least a bait 350 down on the bottom.

I must admit it took a long time for the bite in fact Captain Greg said ok lets just give it 2 more minuets when BAM the bottom bait got the bite. The rod bent over and line was screaming off the reel. Arley jumped in the chair for the first half of the fight but than his son Jack took over.

We had a lot of drag on this fish because we had to get back to the dock for our afternoon trip was already there waiting for us.

So needless to say we caught this shark in less than 15 min and man I’ve got to say that this was one of the quickest we have ever caught one of these big sharks.

We did mange to slide him in through the tuna door for a measurement and a couple of photos but this fish did not like the boat so we did get him back out into the deep sea ASAP!! At this point I am not sure who was happier about getting him back to sea him or me! (LOL)

Arley and Jack hope you guys have a ball on your cruse and thanks again to Mike, Tammy, Linda and LHuillier.

As we got back to the dock we had 24 guys from Finland who had chartered 4 of the boats.

Truth being told fishing was as slow as it gets. We trolled the reef we trolled off shore we tried it all without a bite.

Finally we told the guys fishing was just slow and we all decided to put out the kites with some live baits suspend from them and we were going to send out a couple of shark baits and hope for the best.

So that was just what we did and man did it ever pay off!

We ended up getting a bite on our deep line and it turned out to be a tiger shark!!

Now bare in mind this is South Florida and we just don’t catch many of these in fact I think this was the second one I had ever caught.

Guys while I never did get all their names thanks again for fishing with us.

Fishing with Danny, Mark and Eric for Sharks off Fort Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Today we had Danny from Omaha entertaining a couple of his friends Mark from Idaho and Eric from Freemont Vermont.

We started out trolling the reef catching kingfish one after another.

Once we had caught plenty of kings we brought in the trolling gear and set out our kites with one shark bait suspended from one of the kites and 2 live baits suspended from the other.

It took a long time but than just as we least expected our bottom bait got a bite and the fight was on.

First Mark jumped in the chair and hung on to the rod as this big shark just took line at will. Mark hung in there for a good 15 min than Eric jumped in to give a hand.

Eric also hung in there for another good 15 min till Danny jumped in. It was a real team effort but when it was all said and done Danny put a good whipping on this sea monster and finally up popped this big hammerhead shark.

Greg slid him in through the tuna door for a quick measurement and we managed to get all the hooks out and watched him swim away in good shape except for I think the shark had his feeling a little hurt. (LOL)

At this point we were running a little short on time so instead of resetting everything back out in 350 feet of water we just set the baits back our right where we were in 200 feet of water.

With in minutes BAM our deep rod bent over again and we were Hooked Up again.

This time Danny started and finished the fight within 15 min and up popped this 6-foot bull shark.

Danny, Mark and Eric thanks again you guys are a ball to fish with and we are looking forward to fishing with you guys again soon.

Great Shark Fishing Off Fort Lauderdale

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Great Shark fishing off Fort Lauderdale!

Today we started out fishing with Ron from Vero Beach Florida and Bob from Hernando Florida.

We started out trolling the reef looking for some good eating fish for these guys but all we caught was 1 kingfish and a small black fin tuna.

Ok time for plain B so we did some deep drops looking for some snowy groupers but all we caught was one big vermilion snapper and of course they are still out of season till the first of March so back over the side he went.

Ok the heck with looking for these good eating fish we decided to try for a sea monster.

So out went the shark baits and before we knew what was going on our deep rod bent over with what seemed to be a fright train on the other end and the fight was on with Bob doing all he could just to hang on to the rod.

25 min later up popped this big 5 foot plus hammerhead shark.

Ron and Bob it was a ball fishing with you guys sorry we could not fill the box with good eating fish but it was a blast all the same.

As we got back to the dock we had a new group of anglers eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up.

We had Adam from Poland, Sherrie from Arkansas, Mason from South Florida, Bonnie from Charlotte North Carolina, Herb from Evans Georgia and Kenny from Toronto Canada.

This time we went right to kite fishing with live baits suspended from our kites along with some shark baits out there JUST IN CASE.

Our first bite turned out to be a nice Mahia Mahia and Bonnie wasted no time jumping in the chair. 5 min later BAM he was in the box and the skunk was out of the box.

Than all at once our deep rod with a shark bait on the other end bent over and all hell broke lose.

I can’t remember who jumped in the chair first but I do remember that this sea monster on the other end made short work of him and before long we had to switch anglers.

And than again we had to switch anglers this went on and on for over 40 min till at last as a team they finally got this BIG hammerhead shark to the boat.

Captain J.J. managed to slide the shark’s head through the tuna door and we did manage to get all 3 hooks out of this shark. We got a few quick photos and watched him swim away in great shape.

Holly Cow what a blast!! Thanks again to all of our anglers today for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

It turned out to be a Great idea to Shark fish today off Fort Lauderdale!

Action Packed Fishing Aboard Hooked Up off the Coast of Fort Lauderdale

Today we had a shared charter with Gary and Vannetta from Nixa Missouri and Bryan and Leah from Kitchener Canada.

We started out trolling with 2 planner boards running about 45 feet deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface.

Vannetta broke the ice when a nice Mahia Mahia crashed our right long bait. She jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a good 5 min fight J.J. reached out and BAM he was in the boat.

Than Bryan caught a small black fin tuna.

Ok we had a couple of fish in the box so we brought in the trolling gear and out went the kites with live baits suspended from them.

Ok trap set and all of a sudden we seen a big splash next to our right long kite bait and this time Leah jumped in the chair and just like that another nice Mahia Mahia in the box. Now it was Gary’s turn and sure enough BAM we were Hooked Up again and Gary landed another Mahia Mahia.

Than I seen a little swirl next to one of our kite baits and line started peeling off the reel. Again we were Hooked Up and we were back to the beginning of our line up so once again Vannetta was in the chair and the fight was on. This time we had no idea what we had on but once the fish got close enough for J.J. to make out what it was he got very excited and with one long reach out with the gaff YES a nice Wahoo now laid on the deck.

Guy’s thanks again for fishing with us and I know you guys had a GREAT DINNER!!

Wow What an Action Packed fishing day aboard Hooked Up Off Fort Lauderdale!

Shark Fishing Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up with the guys from North Dakota

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Once again Shark fishing pays off for the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale!

Today we had Mike, Paul, Chad, Greg, John and Chris all from North Dakota out for a few hours off deep-sea fishing.

I have to start out this fishing report with the weather!!

It sucked it was rainy and rough but all the same we went for it.

Now bear in mind that due to the rain everyone was huddled up inside and if there is one place you don’t want to hang out in when it is rough it would be inside.

Needless to say kite fishing was out of the question today once again due to the rain. And as far as trolling that was also out of the question for us due to the lack of sight.

So we were left with shark fishing!

So we went out to 350 of water and set out bait on top one half way down and 3rd 350 feet down on the bottom.

Ok the trap was set and all we needed now was for some big shark to swim along and take a bite. So we waited and waited. Meanwhile while we were waiting I noticed that every 10 min or so some one would come out of the salon and throw up over the side and just like that he would go back inside.

As I was watching this I noticed that not one of these guys bitched at all.

All the same I knew that this trip was going to be cut short and to boot these guys had paid a little extra to stay longer. This decision was made back at the dock where it was flat calm.

Ok back to the fishing! Than all at once our deep rod that was 350 feet away to start at with and now it bent over with line peeling off it as if there was a fright train on the other end.

Chad came running out in the rain just seconds ago he was losing his lunch and now he jumping in the chair just to hang on to this big rod with line just screaming off.

There really was nothing for him to do at this point but to just hang on.

After a few min the fish I mean fright train that was on the other end slowed down and Chad was ready to start trying to reel this thing in.

As you can image it was a very slow take a bit lose a bit type of fight.

Finally after a good 30 min Chad finally got this monster hammerhead shark near the boat. BUT just like that he screamed off a lot of line and it was time to start over.

Chad was done and Paul was eager to give it a shot.

Finally after what seemed forever we finally had this sea monster next to the boat.

Captain Greg and I got a head rope around him and we some how managed to slide hi in threw the tuna door for a quick measurement and a few pictures.

Within seconds we got all 3 hooks out of him and slid him right back out into the open sea to fight again another day.

Paul and Chad pretty work guys.

At this point we were far off shore due to the long fight so Greg just slid out 3 live baits and we were just going to slow troll down sea back toward our inlet when all of a sudden BAM we were Hooked Up again.

This time Mike got out in the rain and did battle with this feisty black tip shark.

5 min later Mike had him at the boat where we took a couple pictures and than Greg cut the leader as close to the shark’s mouth as possible.

Bare in mind that while all this was going on we had 3 guys taking turns losing their lunch over the side.

Ok I made a corporate decision that I think made me a hero.

I said hey guys what you think if we forget about the extra time and just call it a day at a 4-hour trip?

Well no one came up on the bridge to give me a kiss (thank god) but all the same they were all smiles.

You guys are without a doubt some tough sons a guns. Thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up and next time please leave all your photos of deer’s at home you guys were making us feel like we were shooting big rabbits. (LOL)

Shark Fishing pays off again.

Bob and Scott Shark Fishing off the coast of South Florida

Shark Fishing off the coast of South Florida

Today Scott and Bob from Minnesota out for a few hours deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked up.

We started out trolling the reef with 2-planner boards running about 45 feet deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface.

We ended up catching 4 kingfish and one mackerel.

Ok so now that we had the skunk out of the box it was time to try for a sea monster so in came the trolling gear and out went the shark baits.

The trap was set and from here it did not take long till BAM our deep rod bent over and we were Hooked Up.

Scott jumped in the chair and the fight was on. I don’t think Bob and Scott knew what they were in for?

At first all Scott could do was to hang on to the rod while this sea monster just took line off the reel and took line and yep took more line.

Finally the fish slowed down and Scott started to gain a little line but wait again line started peeling off the reel. That’s how this fight began gain a little and then took a little back and forth tug a war. After a good 15 min f this Scott needed a hand so Bob jumped in the chair and he started this back and forth tug a war.

Finally we got this big hammerhead shark near the boat but wait again off he went taking again another 50 yards.

Man what a fight but at last we got this 7-foot plus hammerhead shark to the boat.

We did manage to get 2 out of the 3 hooks out and released this tired but still in great shape shark free to fight again another day.

Bob and Scott thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

As it turned out Shark Fishing off the coast of South Florida was the right choice today.

Bottom Fishing South Florida with our new friends from Canada

Bottom Fishing South Florida

Today we fished with Serge, Guy, Jilles from Quebec and Peter from Ontario Canada.

These guys were looking for some action and some laughs.

We started out catching small bonitos and as it turned out these guys were having a ball doing this. After everyone caught more than enough of these bonitos J.J. set 4 of these bonitos out on a triple hook rigs and we slow trolled them around just to see what would eat them. First Jilles caught a nice barracuda than Serge hooked into a big sailfish but I am sorry to say that once this sail started jumping all over the place he managed to kink the wire and got away. (RATS)

While everyone was having a ball but it seemed we stopped getting bites so it was time for plain C.

So in came our live baits and we did some deep drops in about 350 feet of water.

The second our bait hit the bottom we were Hooked Up and Peter landed a nice snowy grouper.

Next drop BAM Hooked Up again and this time Guy landed a nice Jack.

To our new friends from Canada thanks a bunch for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up it truly was a ball fishing with you guys.
