Fishing with the guys from Chicago aboard Hooked Up

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Here we are on the last day of the year fishing with Daniel from South Florida and Roman, Max, Alex and his son Illia all from Chicago.

To tell the truth fishing was a bit on the slow side today so we went right to trolling the reef hopping to land a few bonitos and or kingfish.

As it turned out we made the right choice. As we were trolling we did land a half dozen small bonitos and one small kingfish.

Than Illia came threw and saved the day by landing a nice big kingfish.

Guy’s thanks again for spending the morning today fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Catching sailfish while nothing was biting aboard Hooked Up

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Today we started out fishing with Todd, Katelyn, Tim, Taylor and Tanner all from South Florida.

Once again I must admit fishing was slow not just for us but also for all the boats.

But all the same we set out our kites and suspended live baits from them crossed our fingers and hopped for the best.

As it turned out we were the lucky lotto winners today because a sailfish jumped on our left long kite bait and just like that we were Hooked Up.

Taylor jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a good 15 min he had his sail close to the boat and Captain Greg held the rod so they could get a photo of this 7-foot plus sail in the water when all of a sudden he took off like a rocket and the fight was on once again. This time Katelyn jumped in the chair trying to get this sail back to the boat. Than Tim jumped in and the whole family was helping. This fish was going nuts and as we finally got him next to the boat we seen why.

It turned out that this fish was not hooked at all it had the line wrapped around it’s bill and was not happy about it. (LOL)

As we got him next to the boat again the line slid off and away he went but not until we got our photos.

Thanks again guys and it was pleasure fishing with you guys just like it’s a pleasure shopping at Publix. (LOL) Talk to you soon Tim.

Shark and Barracuda aboard Hooked Up off Fort Lauderdale

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Today we started out fishing with Alan, Griffin, Eric, George, Max and Aries all from Marry Anna Georgia.

I’ve got to take a second and say these guys have fished with us before and every time they fish with us we seem to have a banner day of deep sea fishing so we were hopping luck would be with us again today but as it turned out fish was just plan old slow today.

While this is our back yard and we play in it everyday and we do know where to go and what to do it is still fishing and today we were trying everything we knew but we were having a hell of a time catching.

So we ended up catching some small bonitos and putting them out as live bait on a deep ledge and finally Griffin saved the day by landing a nice barracuda. Thanks and way to go Griffin.

Guys thanks again for fishing with us again and we are looking forward to fishing again next month with you guys.

As we got back to the dock we had our afternoon trip Marc, Mark, Pierre, Gabbie, Peter and Peggy all from Montreal Canada waiting and eager to give their luck a shot at some deep sea fishing aboard the Hooked up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Once again we knew that fishing was slow so we thought to better our odds we would try shark fishing, sail fishing, Mahi Mahi fishing all at the same time.

So we set out our kites with 3 live baits on the surface and one shark bait also suspended from the kites along with a shark bait down about 150 feet and another shark bait all the way down 350 feet.

Ok the trap was set than all at once BAM the deep rod bent over and all hell broke lose. At first Marc jumped in the chair and the back and forth struggle began. After a good 10 min Marc jumped out of the chair and Mark jumped in. Ok so we had a tag team trying to muscle this sea monster to the boat.

Finally we got this hammerhead shark to the side of the boat.

We slid him threw the tuna door for a quick measurement and a photo and slid him right back out to sea to fight again another day.

Guy’s thanks again for taking the time to fish with us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Fishing with Terry, Nathan, Cody, Carson and Logan aboard Hooked Up

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Today was kind of special day fishing aboard the Hooked up.

We had Terry and his 3 sons Cody, Nathan and Carson along with his daughter Logan.  All of these guys grew up with my kids up in Orlando and now everyone is grown and going to different schools and working in different places so this was kind of a special get together.

We got out to about 150 feet of water and set out both kites with 4 live goggle eyes (live baits) suspended from them and the trap was set.

We waited and waited with no bites than all of a sudden we seen a hammerhead shark racing around trying to zero in on the sent of the live baits.

It was exciting watching this 6-foot shark zinging and zaging all over the place trying to catch one of these live baits. Than as we were all cheering the shark on BAM he got one and Nathan jumped in the chair and the fight was on.

After a good 15 min Nathan had his tired shark to the side of the boat. My son Luis reached over with his long arms grabbed the shark and just like that set him on the covering board for a quick photo with everyone.

This all happen so fast that the shark never even moved and we him back in the water within seconds and he darted away to fight again another day.

Guys it was a blast fishing and seeing you guys again.

Sharks are here off the coast of Fort Lauderdale come fishing get Hooked Up

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Today we fished with Austin, Jenifer, Len, Taylor and Justin from George Town Kentucky.

We started out trolling the reef with our planner boards down about 45 feet and 3 baits skipping on the surface but as it turned out trolling the reef was slow today with us only catching 1 kingfish.

Ok time for plane B. So in came the trolling gear and out went the kites with live baits suspended from them.

While we were thinking we might get lucky and catch a sailfish we never expected a shark to pop up in 120 feet of water.

But that was just what happen and just like that we were Hooked Up.

While it was not a monster hammerhead it was one hell of a back and forth fight on 20-pound test.

After a good 20 min fight we had this 5-foot hammerhead to the boat.

Once again we would like to thank Len and his family for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up and Len if you could send us a couple of the pictures we would be glad to post them .

Fishing with Ryan, Ryan and Jeff from Saskatchewan Saskatoon Canada aboard Hooked Up

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

Today we had a few guys from Saskatchewan Saskatoon Canada (Try to say that 3 times in a row) Ryan, Ryan and Jeff.

We started out our trip trolling the reef with 2 planner boards running about 45 feet deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface.

We ended up boating 4 kingfish.

Ok skunk out of the box and now it was time to try for a big sea monster.

So in came the trolling gear and out went the kites with 2 live baits suspended from the kites along with shark bait also suspended from the kites. We also set a shark bait down 350 feet to the bottom.

Ok the trap was set and now all we needed was for some big fish to come along and take a bite.

Sure enough BAM the deep rod bent over line started peeling off the reel and we were Hooked Up.

Ryan jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After 10 min Ryan gave one of the other guys a shot at fighting this sea monster. So it turned out to be a tag team working on this big fish with there back and forth tug a war. After 25 min up popped this big 7 to 8 foot golden hammerhead shark.

(WOW). Nice going guys.

Ryan, Ryan and Jeff thanks so much for fishing with us aboard the hooked up and Ryan be carful snow boarding with all those avalanches around.

Great Shark, Sail, King and Mahi Mahi Fishing aboard Hooked up

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

What a great day of Deep Sea Fishing Aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of South Florida in Fort Lauderdale.

We started out our day fishing with Andy and his son Andy for just a 3-hour tour (Just like the song) but with a much better ending.

These guys had their heart set on trying to catch a shark. Now bare in mind this was a short 3- hour trip and this was a tall order to fill.

But all the same we went out to 350 feet of water and set out our 2 kites with 2 live baits suspended from 1 kite and a big shark bait also suspended from the other kite. We also sent a big shark bait all the way down 350 feet to the bottom.

Ok the trap was set and the wait was on. After about 45 min of waiting our deep rod bent over and line started peeling off the reel as if there was a fright train connected to the other end. Big Andy jumped in the chair and the fight was on. And I do mean the FIGHT was on!! At first there really was nothing Andy could do but to hang on and watch all this line get peeled off the reel. After a good 5 min of line screaming off the reel it started to slow down a bit and Andy went to work.

I’ve got to take a second to say that I have been fishing these waters off the coast of South Florida since the early 70s and I really had no idea what the heck we had on at this point but I did know it was going to be a BIG FISH.

Ok back to the fish fight. This was one of those fights where Andy would gain 4 or 5 feet of line and than the fish would take 2 or 3 feet back. This was a real back and forth tug a war. This went on for over 45 min till at last we could see a little color coming up from the deep.

Much to everyone’s surprise it turned out to be an 11-foot plus big eye Thresher shark.

If you’ve never seen a big-eyed Thresher I’ve got to say that it is the coolest looking shark in the world. It has eyes as big around as a beer can and its tail is almost as long as it’s body. It truly looks like a creature from another planet.

Once this sea monster was at the boat he was as tired as Andy so we were able to slide his head in threw the tuna door to get a few photos and a quick measurement of this fish and than we slid him right back out the door to fight again another day.

WOW what else can I say!!! Nice going Andy.

Ok now it was time to bring in the kites and head back for the dock. As J.J. started reeling in the baits the other shark rod that was on the kite bent over and BAM we had another shark on.

This time little Andy jumped in the chair and the second fight of the trip was on.

Little Andy had plenty of time to watch how his dad did it so he was up for the fight.

After a good 5 min little Andy had a 4-foot silky shark at the side of the boat. Once again a couple of photos and off he darted into the deep blue sea.

Andy and Andy thanks sooooo much this was a fishing trip that I will not forget!!

WHAT A BLAST.

As we got back to the dock we had our afternoon trip eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing aboard Hooked Up.

We had Laden, Elizabeth, Ashton, Keith and Bryon all from Eastern Kentucky.

Once again we went right to kite fishing with our live baits suspended from the kites along with a couple of shark baits out there.

The trap was set and the wait was on.

We waited and waited and finally a bite and Elizabeth jumped in the chair and the fight was on. She ended up landing a Mahi Mahi and got the skunk out of the box.

Ok baits right back out there and once again we waited and waited with no more bites.

We decided to make a move. So we brought in all the baits and moved from 350 feet of water into 130 feet and set the baits right back out there.

Soon after the baits were all set BAM a bite and Keith jumped in the chair and landed a nice 25-pound kingfish.

Ok things were looking up and than BAM another bite this time Landen jumped in the chair just as a big sailfish started jumping all over the place.

After a good 15 min fight Landen had his first sailfish ever to the side of the boat.

Fishing with Ken aboard Hooked Up off South Florida

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Today we had an old customer / friend Ken from San Francisco California out for a few hours of deep-sea fishing off the coast of South Florida aboard the Hooked Up.

We really don’t know why but as it turned out fishing was just plain old slow today but we kept at it and we did manage to catch 3 out of 4 Mahi Mahi that we had hooked all at the same time with just one angler.

Like they say fishing can be hours of boredom interrupted by moments of panic and chaos. (LOL)

Ken thanks again and we are looking forward to fishing again this March.

Fishing with the guys from Wisconsin aboard Hooked Up off Fort Lauderdale

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Today we set out on our deep-sea adventure with Brad, Shawn, Greg and Dan all from Wisconsin.

We set out both kites with live goggle eyes (Live Bait) suspended from them in 180 feet of water.

Our first bite came right after setting out the kites and Dan jumped in the chair. After a 5 min fight Dan got the skunk out of the box by landing an 8-pound kingfish.

Ok Skunk out of the box and right back out went the baits.

After some waiting a big swirl by our right long kite bait than BAM a sailfish came out of the water and we were Hooked Up.

This time Shawn jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a good 15 min back and forth tug a war Shawn had his first sailfish ever to the boat. Captain Greg reached over and got a good hold on the sail and we brought him into the boat for a quick measurement and a photo and back out to sea he went to fight again another day. (Way to go Shawn)

Big Fun Catching Mahi Mahi and much more aboard Hooked Up in South Florida

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

What an action packed day of deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Today we fished with Tom and Roger from Wisconsin, Bruce from Des Moines Iowa and last but not least the troublemaker Mark from Conn. (LOL)

Today we shot right off shore in search of the ever so elusive dolphin fish AKA “Mahi Mahi”a fish so nice they named it twice.

Now don’t get me wrong I like catching this great eating and good fighting fish but it seems that when we go way off shore looking for them we only seem to find them good 1 out of 3 or 4 times and once we’re out there it can be a you’re a hero or a zero type of fishing.

Well I very glad to say that today we were HEROS and it all started with 3 out of the 4 guys aboard fighting fish at the same time.

After we broke the ice and the skunk was out of the box we found schools of dolphins a few different times and the skip jack tunas and black fin tunas kept us plenty busy while we were looking for more dolphin.

Gentlemen and you to Mark thanks again for spending the day fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Fishing Fort Lauderdale with the couples from Pittsburgh

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Today we set out fishing with a couple of couples from Pittsburgh Pa.

We had Carla and Chris and Tanecia and John.

We went right to kite fishing with 4 live baits suspended from the kites wishing for a big sailfish to come along. No sails popped up but it wasn’t long before we had our first dolphin fish in the boat.

But as it turned out our trip was cut a bit short due to a couple folks kind of got well lets say sick of fishing. (LOL)

However we did manage to land a couple of dolphin fish before heading back to the dock.

Guys thanks again and sorry the ocean was a bit angry today.
