Ending november 2010 with a BANG aboard the Hooked Up Off the coast of Fort Lauderdale

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

What a great way to end November 2010 we had Lorene, Mike, Deb and Marty from Colorado and from Arizona out for a morning of deep sea fishing aboard the hooked up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale

Fishing had been a bit on the slow side the past few days so we knew we were going to try a couple of different fishing strategies.

We started out picking up some live baits from the live bait boat and went right to kite fishing with 4 baits suspended from the kite.

It took some waiting but all at once came this BIG black tip shark after one of our kite baits. It took a matter of seconds for the shark to catch one of these live baits that were on a tight leash and just like that we were Hooked Up.

The rod bent over line started peeling off the reel our angler jumped in the chair and the fight was on.

It took a good 15 min to get this big black tip shark to the side of the boat. J.J. got the shark in the boat for a few quick pictures and a quick measurement to have a replica trophy made of him and watched him swam away in good shape.

Ok now we had the skunk out of the box but kite fishing was just not producing enough bites for us to stick this out so we changed fishing strategies.

In came all the kite fishing gear and off we went to do some deep drops on some of the wrecks that lay on the bottom off the coast of ft Lauderdale.

First drop produced a nice amber jack.

Than we dropped again and came up with a nice black grouper. Then yet another drop and YES yet another black grouper.

Talk about making the right move we ended up with two 10 to 15 pound black groupers and one nice amber jack.

Guy’s thanks for spending the last day of November aboard the Hooked Up and helping us end Nov on a great note.

Killer Afternoon Fishing Aboard the Hooked Up

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Today we had folks from all over the country. We had Robert from Toronto Canada, John from Indy, Alex, Christina and Tom from Atlanta Ga., and Tom from Seattle Washington.

Today we went right to kite fishing and hoping for the best. Fishing was on the slow side today and we knew that we had a hand full of boats on this convention and most of the boats went trolling the reef and were not catching anything. So we decided that we were going for hero or zero.

Well as it turned out we made the right choice.

Not only did we catch fish but we caught a couple of big fish to boot and pretty much smoked the rest of the boats.

Don’t get me wrong all the other boats were very good fisherman it was just our turn and things worked out real good for the hooked Up Fishing team today.

Robert ended up catching an 80-inch hammerhead shark and Christine ended up with a monster sailfish.

Guys if you send me the pictures i would be glad to post them!!!

Thanks again guys for a fun afternoon of deep-sea fishing aboard the hooked up off the coast of South Florida.

Today we had our regular customer/friend the one and only Pete Pillone on board along with his mom, 2 sisters and their good friends Michael and Kerri from New York and Georgia.

Fishing was once again on the slow side by the nice thing about this trip was that it was not all just about the fishing but about good friends and family getting together  over the Thanks Giving holidays.

But we did manage to catch a couple of dolphin fish for mom along with a few bottom fish.

Pete as always thanks and will see you again soon.

Catching Wahoo off the Fort Lauderdale coast

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Today we had Rob, Loran and Joe all from Ohio and Chuck from Jupiter Florida

We started out kite fishing with little to no bites to speak of when all of a sudden a small king fish ate one of our kite baits. Loran jumped in the chair and the fight was on. Truth be told I did go ahead a little bit with the boat just to keep this little kingfish from getting under the boat but I was more concerned with keeping the other 3 kite baits under the kite and trying not to drag them around too much when Captain Greg reached down and gaffed what we thought was a little kingfish turned out that when he flipped him into the boat and we all seen this 18 pound Wahoo hit the deck no one was more surprised than me.

Holly cow talk about a lucky catch!!

After anther couple hours of no bites we brought in all the kite fishing gear and set out some trolling baits.

We had drifted so far to the south that I was trolling about 7 knots an hour just trying to get back toward home when all of a sudden our wire line bent over and we were Hooked Up again.

This time Chuck jumped in the chair and in came anther Wahoo.

LUCK HELL YES but we’ll take it any way we can get it.

We ended up with a couple of 18 to 20 pound Wahoo’s and one 15-pound kingfish.

Guys’ thanks again for your patience and hope you guys enjoy dinner.

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

Today seeing that it was Thanks Giving Day we were only going to run 1 trip so we wanted to make the most out of it.

As Alex got on board we were talking a bit about the fishing and what might be available for us to catch today.

I had already talked to a few of the boats that were out there fishing and they had told me that we had little to no current and that fishing was very slow.

I was explaining this to Alex and he said that was fine all they really wanted to catch was a dolphin fish for dinner and a sailfish and they would be happy with that.

Well having said that I felt it was important that I let Alex know that when I was a kid I wanted a pony but all I got was a dog. (LOL)

I knew that it was a slim chance of catching ether one of these today the fishing reports on the radio sounded BAD.

But all the same we went out to about 170 feet of water and set out both of our kites with 4 live baits suspended from them and hoped for the best.

All of a sudden I noticed our right long kite bait was just walking away. I never seen a fish or a splash or anything but there had to be something on the other end.

Captain J.J. picked up the rod and just started reeling on it to see if he could get the bait back under the kite when BAM a dolphin fish came out of the water jumping all over the place. I could not believe this everyone had already been fishing 2 hours before we got out there at 10:00 am and none had much to show for it and within 5 min we had a nice dolphin on the line.

Andres jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It took about 7 to 10 min and BAM we had a dolphin in the box.

Ok we were half way there and to tell you the truth I was pretty happy about that. All of a sudden here comes this big sailfish after our right long kite bait and before I knew it he was dancing all over the surface with one of our hooks in his mouth.

This time Nicolis got in the chair and the fight was on. This fish took out so much line that after a good 15 min Alex jumped in to give his son a hand.

10 min later there he was next to the boat. After some hand shaking and some high fiving Alex looked at us and said mission accomplished and called it a day.

Today Turkey and dolphin would be had by all.

Alex thanks again and we’re looking forward to fishing with you guys again soon.

Monster Black Tip Shark

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Today we had Madison, Haley and Jay all from St Louis out for a few hours of deep-sea fishing aboard Hooked Up.

We went right for kite fishing since the kingfish and bonitos have just stopped biting the last few days.

I must admit fishing was slow today but all of a sudden I seen a fin flying threw the water going after our left short kite bait. It only took a matter of seconds till this rocket ship of a fish grabbed the bait and we were Hooked Up.

Haley jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a back and forth tug a war for a good 15 min and to tell you the truth we had no idea what kind of fish we had on.

Once Haley got the fish in close enough for us to get a good look at him I could not believe what I was looking at. It was a black tip shark. BUT not just a black tip this thing was a monster black tip. I’ve never seen one this big. It was every bit of 6 foot long and as far as black tip sharks are concerned this has to be as big as it gets.

Guy’s thanks again for fishing aboard the Hooked up and once again sorry the fishing was not a bit better.

Fishing with our buddy from Texas

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Today we had Alexis and her friend Kelly from Dallas Texas.

I’m sorry to say that today we did not have that good north current like we have had the last couple days and the sailfish just turned off for us.

But we did manage to catch Alexis a big golden amber jack on one of the wrecks.

Alexis we are looking forward to fishing with you again on the 10th of December and we WILL make it up to you.

Thanks again Captain Taco (954) 764-4344 or toll free at (877) SEA-4344

Sailfish snap off off the coast of Fort Lauderdale

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Today we only had one guy who chartered the boat by himself maybe he knew something we did not but MAN did Geno from Minnesota ever get his money’s worth.

We stopped by the live bait boat and picked up a dozen live goggles and went right to kite fishing.

Ok the trap was set and from there it only took a few min till our first bite or should I say our first 3 bites. That’s right we had 3 sail fish pop up @ the same time.

Geno jumped in the chair while 2 out of the 3 sailfish got hooked. Talk about an exciting fishing trip Geno ended up catching 4 out of 10 shots @ sail fish all by himself.

Geno thanks again for a fun fishing trip aboard the Hooked Up.

As we got back to the dock we had our afternoon trip waiting for us. We had Marshall, Rick and Dennis all from Fort Mayors Florida eager to give luck a shot @ some deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked up off the coast of South Florida.

We knew that the sailfish were biting so once again we went right to kite fishing in about 150 feet of water with our 2 kites flying and 4 live baits suspended from the kites.

And shore enough the sails were still there and hungry.

We ended up catching 2 out of 5 shots we had on sails. With Rick landing one monster 87-inch sailfish.

All of our sails were released and swam away in great shape.

Once again I would like to thank all of our anglers today for fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Ft Lauderdale Florida.

Having a ball fishing aboard the Hooked Up

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

I want to start out by saying that we have a ball doing what we do for a living witch is we get to take people fishing. And 9 out of 10 times we have just as much fun as our anglers. But every once in a while a fishing trip will stand out a bit and that was the case on this trip.

Let me start out by introduces the players on this fishing trip aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

We gad Robert the Cop, Jerry the million dollar beer guy, Kevin the mouth and his beautiful girl friend Jen and last but not least Ramie the chummer all from South Florida.

Now these guys were looking for some good eating fish to take home for their fish fry. So we headed off shore looking for some dolphin fish or some wahoo for their fish fry.

I’ve got to take a moment to say that by the time we got about 4 miles off shore and got all the baits in the water these guys never stopped talking and having a ball. At this point I don’t even think anyone knew where the head (bath room) was or any thing else about the boat or the fishing we just could not get a word in.

Ok so there we were setting out all the baits when all of a sudden here came the dolphin fish from everywhere. Most of the time this would be a good thing BUT with a fish on every rod and these guys yelling so loud that we could not get anything going on as far as someone reeling in the fish.

Finally after a little soft SCREAM I got their attention (LOL)

So we ended up boating 3 out of the 5 dolphin we had on but what really my attention was I seen them laughing and I asked what was so funny?? They told me that Kevin the mouth is always that loud and they had been trying to get him to shut up for 2 days now. (LOL)

I’ve got to say that our fishing trip just went up hill from that point on. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much on a fishing trip in years and the fish were biting to boot. We think the fish were biting so well because we had Rami the chummer keeping the fish around the boat.

We ended up with a box full of dolphin fish 1 black tip shark and we jumped off a sailfish.

Guys what a ball thanks sooo much and we are looking forward to fishing with you guys again soon.

Catching King Fish Off the Fort Lauderdale Coast

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

Today we had a shred charter with Donald and Mary from New Jersey Shore and Jerry and Joe from Toronto /Canada and Enrique from Uruguay.

Once again we stopped by the live bait boat and loaded up with live goggle eyes and went right to kite fishing with our live baits suspended from the kites.

While we never did see any sailfish today the kingfish were snapping and everyone caught plenty of kings and all of them in the 10 to 15 pound range.

Good fishing today and plenty of action to keep everyone busy.

Thanks again to all of our anglers today for fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of South Florida.

Sail Fish are Here off the coast of ft lauderdale

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Ok so today we Juan from Denver Colorado, Mark from St Louis, Gary from San Francisco and Paul from Oklahoma out for a few hours of deep sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of ft Lauderdale.

We started out our day by swinging by the live bait boat and picking up a bucket of live baits call goggle eyes.

From there we headed right out to 150 feet of water about a mile and a half from shore and set out both of our kites with two live baits suspended from each kite.

Ok the trap was set and now all we needed was for some big fish to come along and take the bait. It did not take long for our first victim to come along and it turned out to be a big sailfish. Mark jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It took a good 15 min till Mark finally got his sailfish to the side of the boat. We got a few quick pictures and watched him swim away in great shape to fight again another day.

Ok now we were all pumped up looking forward to a great bite. As soon as we got the baits set back out there BAM another bite and this time Juan got in the chair and once again the fight was on. Juan’s fish never did come up jumping so we were not sure what he had on. As he got his fish close to the boat we seen this silver streak jet threw the water like a rocket. Finally we got a gaff into this big smoker king fish. Way to go Juan.

All Righty Now: Thing were just going great and as soon as we got the baits back out there BAM another bite and out came this monster sailfish dancing all over the surface of the waves.

This time Paul got in the chair and hell yes another big fight was on. This one was a big back and forth tug a war for a good 25 min till at last Paul got his big sailfish to the side of the boat.

We hauled Paul’s fish in the boat for a quick measurement and a couple of quick photos and released him fight again another day.

Guys I really want to thank all four of you again for a fun day of deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up

Black fins,Sail fish, king fish and dolphin fish aboard Hooked Up

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Today we headed out fishing with John, Bruce, Jeremy and George all from South Florida.

We started out trolling with 2 planners running deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface. We trolled down to the south about 3 miles without getting a bite. So than we trolled back toward the north out in deeper water a caught a few little black fin tunas which we threw back.

Ok now we found our self’s about 3 miles north of our inlet and not any fish in the box to show for it. It was time for a change.

We brought in all the trolling gear and set out our kites with live baits suspended from them.

Once we got our baits all in place things started to take a turn for the better. We hooked into a nice dolphin and before we knew it we had dolphin jumping on all of the baits at the same time. We ended up putting a couple of real nice dolphin in the box along with a couple king fish.

While we were not setting the world on fire we were catching fish and some good eating fish to boot.

All of a sudden I seen a blue streak good threw the water heading right for our right long kite bait. It only took about 2 seconds to realize we were Hooked Up with a monster sail fish. John jumped in the chair and the fight was on. This fish took out so much line that we had to start backing down on him before we ran out of line. It took John a good 30 to 35 min till we finally got his monster sail to the side of the boat.

We got a few pictures of his sail swimming next to the boat and set hi m free to fight again another day.

Guys thanks again for a fun day of fishing.

Fishing with Jack, Hassel and John

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Ok today we had our old customers Jack and Hassel from Amsterdam and today they brought along their good friend John witch happen to own a hotel right on the beach off the coast of Fort Lauderdale Florida. Just quick back round on our relationship Jack has been fishing with me on all the boats I have fished on for over 20 years now and he has been staying at the Tropic Sea Resort for over 30 years now.

I guess you can say Jack from Amsterdam has found a second home here in South Florida.

I asked Jack why he always stays at the same hotel and he said that they make him and his wife Katherine feel like family and they are located off the main husel and busel of the night life yet close enough to when they want to get out into the night life it is just min away.

If you are thinking about spending a bit of time down here in Sunny South Florida I would strongly suggest checking them out at www.Tropicseasresort.com .

Also about Jack and Hassel they have fished all over the world from Africa for big black marlin to Canada for salmon but they seem to always come back here aboard the Hooked Up to give me a hard time and to drink a LOT of beer and for some good eating fish so they can have big fish fries at the hotel and they seem to always make a big party out of it.

So having said all that; good eating fish was what we were looking for.

We headed way off shore in search of some good eating dolphin fish. After hours of trolling we never did find any dolphin however we did manage to catch a hand full of black fin tunas with make for some great Sushi.

(The best way to cook this up is cover the fillet with sesame seeds and just sear for just a few seconds on each side just enough to get the seeds brown then put the fish back in the fridge for about 15 min. Pull it out slice thin pieces off and dip in some soy sauce then insert this into your mouth and WOW talk about a flavor explosion. Finish it off with some ice cold beer and now we’re talking!!)

Ok back to our fishing trip. No dolphin fish to be found off shore so we came in on the reef and flew our kites looking for just about anything we could get to bite. Once again no bites. (RATS)

Ok plan C. We started we started trolling fast zig zaging  between 100 feet of water out to 400 feet of water with 2 planners running about 45 to 50 feet down. At last we found good eating fish we ended up catching a couple of nice Wahoo’s.

Jack, John and Hassel thanks again for giving me such a hard time all day today but I wouldn’t have it any other way. (LOL)

More SAILFISH aboard HOOKED UP

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Today we had 4 guys from Quebec Canada come down to spend a few hours fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. We had Sylvain, Helene, Gaetan and Micheline.

Once again we went to the live bait boat picked up some live bait and went right to kite fishing. Today the conditionings looked just about as good as they could have. We had clean blue water and a good north current. Once all the baits were set it seemed to only took a few min till our first strike and it turned out to be a big jack carvel. While it is not a good eating fish I’ve got to say that pound for pound they are one of the toughest fish around.

From that point on things just kept getting better and better for us. Our next bite turned out to be a nice dolphin fish and soon thereafter we had three bites at the same time and they all turned out to be sail fish.

We ended up catching 2 out of the three sail fish at the same time. Talk about an exciting fishing trip!!

Guys thanks again for a great fun time on the water.

Nov is here and right on time so are the sail fish

Monday, November 1st, 2010

November is finally here and right on time the sail fish are starting to show up.

Today we started out fishing with Brenan, Kurt, Carl and Rob from Pittsburg Pa.

On our way out we stopped at the live bait boat picked up a bucket of goggle eyes (live bait) and headed out to 180 feet of water. We set out both our kites with 2 live baits suspended from each kite. Ok the trap was set now all we needed was for some big hungry fish to come along and eat one.

It took a bit of waiting but then all of a sudden there was a big swirl by one of our baits and line started creeping off the reel. We locked up the reel the rod bent over and out came a nice dolphin fish jumping all over the place. Kurt jumped in the chair and before we knew it we had the skunk out of the box and a dolphin in the box.

We got the baits all set back in place and once again the wait was on. Than all at once all hell broke loose when this big sail fish came up and took off with our right long kite bait. This time Brennan jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a back and forth tug a war for a good 15 min till finally Brennan got his first ever sail fish to the boat. J.J. got the fish in the boat for a quick measurement to have a replica trophy made of Brennan’s catch and we watched him swim away in good shape to fight again another day.

Guys sorry to say that we did not have our camera aboard so if you guys send us some of the photos we would be happy to post them.
